The display is a 15.6″ LCD display with BrightView technology and a resolution of 1366 x 768. The 16:9 aspect ratio and native 720p support makes it excellent for watching widescreen DVDs. The screen is driven by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD with 1696 MB total available graphics memory. This is shared graphics memory, so it may get bogged down during graphically intensive tasks like games.
This laptop comes with a speedy 500 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive with a rotating speed of 7200 RPM. Finally, the right size drive at the right speed. Bravo to HP for that. The optical drive is a LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support.
As far as networking goes, you’ve got your standard wired and wireless choices. For wired you get an RJ-45 port for 10/100 Ethernet. For wireless you get the most recent 802.11 b/g/n adapter. It would’ve been nice to see gigabit Ethernet on the wired side, but you’ll probably be using this one wirelessly most of the time any way.
The 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader for Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, or xD Picture cards gives you easy access to all those digital pictures you’ve taken of the family in Hawaii. Other external connections available are 3 high-speed Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 ports, 1 headphone out, 1 microphone-in, 1 HDMI for connecting to your HDTV and 1 VGA (15-pin) port for connecting an external monitor.
The keyboard is a 101-key compatible with full size keyboard and One touch launch and Action keys. The pointing device is a Touch Pad with integrated On/Off button and 2-way scroll pad support. You also get a built-in webcam and microphone for videochatting, and Altec Lansing speakers for rocking out.
The notebook comes with Microsoft Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed for the operating system. Other software includes
Symantec Norton Internet Security 2010 60-day Trial, HP Assistant, HP PC Recovery, HP Advisor, Rhapsody Music Store, eBay, Windows Live Photo Gallery, Cyberlink Power DVD, Cyberlink DVD Suite, Adobe Reader; Adobe Flash, HP Games Powered by Wild Tangent, Cyberlink MediaShow, Microsoft Works, Microsoft Office 2007 Home & Student 60-day Trial, Microsoft Silverlight, Sun Java, HP Set Up, Windows Live Movie Maker, Windows Live Messenger; Wi
ndows Live Mail; Windows Live Writer, Skype, MSN Toolbar, Microsoft Portal, and Accellor (Broadband Aggregator in HP Setup). I wish HP wouldn’t put so much crap on their machines.
